The Making Of, the industry-leading filmmaking podcast and media platform founded and hosted by Michael Valinsky, has reached its 150th episode as it approaches its five-year anniversary. Since launching in 2022, it has built a global audience through in-depth conversations with top cinematographers, directors, producers, sound and post-production professionals, alongside technology companies and industry thought leaders.
Guests have included award-winning cinematographers Autumn Durald Arkapaw ASC (Sinners), Lol Crawley BSC (The Brutalist), Adolpho Veloso (Train Dreams) and Lawrence Sher ASC (Joker); directors Richard Linklater (Boyhood), Joachim Trier (Sentimental Value) and Jimmy Chin (Free Solo); and actors Ethan Hawke, Giovanni Ribisi and Amy Landecker. A recent Backrooms episode brought together the film’s cinematographer, VFX supervisor, editor and production sound team to explore the project and their creative collaboration.
“It’s been an exciting journey to speak with many of the most creative and accomplished artists in our industry — hearing their origin stories and learning how they approach their craft,” says Valinsky. “Our goal has always been to create an educational and inspiring resource for creatives at every stage, from students to working professionals. I’m deeply grateful to our longtime partners, including AJA Video Systems, Broadfield Distributing, CSS Music, OWC, ShotDeck, Vimeo, and ZEISS, for their continued support. We look forward to continuing these conversations and supporting the industry for many years to come.”
The Making Of has also launched TMO Sports, a companion podcast dedicated to the craft and technology behind sports production and broadcasting. New episodes of The Making Of stream weekly on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Substack, alongside a weekly industry newsletter.
