Shadowbox Studios to operate Kaufman Astoria Studios

Shadowbox Studios announces today that the historic Kaufman Astoria Studios, one of New York’s most important, storied film and television production facilities, will be operated and managed by Shadowbox Studios. The Shadowbox team is honored to carry on the legacy of seamless New York production experiences that Kaufman Astoria has been known for over a century of operation.

The 500,000 square-foot campus in Astoria, Queens is amongst the most historic studio facilities in North America. Built in 1920 as the original home of Paramount Pictures, Kaufman Astoria’s story continues through some of the most beloved film and television productions, from Goodfellas, The Wiz and Sesame Street to modern hit series Succession, Just Like That and the recent blockbuster feature film The Devil Wears Prada 2. Today, the landmark studio includes 11 purpose-built soundstages along with over 325,000 square-feet of premium office and production support space.

The transition will take effect immediately with the global studio operator working closely with the on-site teams to ensure a seamless transition and the continued delivery of first-class operations for all production clients. Shadowbox Studios is a premium global studio operations platform and brings industry leading expertise from both studio management and production.  The team have a proven background in welcoming producers to spaces which offer top tier facilities and unrivalled customer service.

In the US, Shadowbox Atlanta is a nine soundstage, state-of-the-art studio complex that has been home to iconic franchises from Jumanji to Godzilla: King of Monsters. In the UK, Shadowbox Shinfield is a one million square-foot premium facility with 18 soundstages and has played host to some of the world’s most recognizable film franchises including Stars Wars: The Acolyte to Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Shadowbox is currently developing a 10-soundstage campus in Queensland, Australia. They are also proud to run an in-house workforce development program, Backlot Academy: a practical, hands-on certification and immersive real-world training program designed to launch and grow careers in film and television production and grow crew bases across domestic and international markets alike.
