As Focus Features prepares to make a buzz on the big screen with Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia, From The Silver Screen (FTSS) are proud to release its second collaboration with Focus Features: featuring a limited-edition necklace crafted entirely from reclaimed film silver extracted from the VistaVision 35mm reels of the film itself.
The design of this necklace, the honey bee, is modelled on one of the prop insects from the film set itself. Bees form a central symbol throughout this dark and absurdist comedy. To model a pendant on this key motif in the film, the bee was 3D scanned to capture every minute detail, from the texture of the hairs to the segmented abdomen and curved stinger.

All of FTSS’s jewellery is created with reclaimed film silver, using the microscopic crystals that are dissolved from film strips when processed at the film lab (Cinelab Film and Digital). Therefore this bee is both a symbolic and literal tribute to the film, in a tangible and wearable fashion!
This collaboration is the latest piece of a long-standing creative partnership. During the making of Poor Things (2023), FTSS created a bespoke collection for the film’s Director of Photography, transforming the film’s “Frankenstitch” hybrid animals into silver jewellery. Oscar-nominated Robbie Ryan donned one of the brooches himself on the red carpet that year.
When Bugonia entered production, Ryan approached the team again, with a clear vision of creating another Lanthimos film keepsake. Made out of the finite silver from Bugonia’s own film strips, together they’ve produced a strictly limited edition of the bees. Which are excitingly now available for public purchase.

From The Silver Screen was founded in 2021 by film professionals Natalie Daniels and Claire Richardson with a mission to preserve the tangible legacy of cinema. Working in partnership with Cinelab, they create limited edition jewellery using the silver harvested during film processing.
