Ealing Studios, the world’s oldest film studio, today announced the completion of its newest facilities, marking a major milestone in sustainable film and television production. The multi-million-pound expansion includes a state-of-the-art 14,000 sq. ft stage and the Balcon Building, both designed to be Net Zero Carbon and setting a new benchmark for the creative industries in the UK and beyond.
The new buildings are an industry-first, achieving net-zero carbon status through on-site renewable technology, without reliance on carbon offset payments. This pioneering development delivers zero-emission operations powered entirely by renewable energy.
The expansion comprises Stage 1 and the Balcon Building, which together provide:
- 14,000 sq. ft sound stage
- Two advanced workshops (7,000 sq. ft total)
- 25,000+ sq. ft of modern office space
Awarded an EPC A+ rating (the highest standard of energy efficiency), the new development at Ealing Studios has been designed to a BREEAM Outstanding accreditation, a recognition achieved by fewer than 1% of buildings nationwide.
Key sustainability features include:
- Air-source heat pumps and 256 rooftop solar panels
- On-site renewable energy powering heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilation
- Surplus renewable electricity exported back into the local grid
- A highly efficient thermal envelope designed to eliminate heat loss
Together, these measures deliver a 100% reduction in regulated carbon emissions, in full compliance with the UK’s latest Building Regulations.
Achieving BREEAM Outstanding accreditation underscores the project’s pioneering approach, representing not only compliance but a leap beyond conventional standards, with innovative solutions integrated at every stage of the lifecycle, from planning to operation.
Alongside these new facilities, 10,000 sq. ft of existing production space has been refurbished as part of the site’s overall redevelopment, where Grade II-listed stages sit alongside sustainable innovation.
The expansion balances the demands of world-class film and TV production with a deep respect for heritage within the London site. By investing in sustainable, future-ready facilities, Ealing Studios strengthens its role as a cornerstone of film and TV growth and reinforces the UK’s position as a global creative superpower.

Ealing Studios has bookings confirmed through March 2026 and has just been home to The Bitter End, helmed by BAFTA Award-winning director Mike Newell starring Isabella Rossellini and Joan Collins. This John Gore Studios production marks the legendary Joan Collins’ return to the site of her early screen career and further enriching Ealing’s proud legacy.
