DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER
First, the surprise. It was quite a shock when, out-of-the-blue, Alan Lowne and I were presented with a Special Award from the AIP (Portuguese Society Of Cinematographers) for chronicling the art and craft of cinematography for a quarter of a century. We both feel honoured, but truly humbled, and convey our heartfelt thanks to the AIP for this unexpected tribute.
As for the landmark, congratulations to DP Autumn Durald Arkapaw ASC on her historic, Academy Award win for Sinners – a feat forever carved into the annals of cinematographic achievement by a splendidly gracious and articulate role model. Let’s hope Autumn’s recognition proves inspirational to others, and encourages greater inclusively and representation over hiring choices.
The world, surely, can only be a better place with more tolerance and understanding, our industry enriched with broader diversity. And, it’s with this in mind that we dedicate this edition to Autumn and her wonderful success.
Wishing you success in your endeavours too. Long live cinematography!
