Cinematography World is part of Rascals Publishing & Media Ltd. The publishers emphasise that opinions expressed within Cinematography World Magazine are not representative of Rascals Publishing & Media Ltd and are the responsibility of individual contributors.
This disclaimer is published on the masthead page in each and every edition of Cinematography World.
The views expressed by those who submit articles, are those of the writers themselves. They know their opinions will be read by a global audience, and that readers are free to come to their own conclusions.
As a magazine offering such a platform, Cinematography World does not endorse opinions or views that are expressed, rather it presents what people want to say. These are not our views, they are what the writer wants to convey to the industry. It is not our place to censor or obscure.
The View From The Top column in Cinematography World is open to organisations and people involved in the cinematographic community, typically industry-leading figures, who have over-arching views on a wide variety of matters. It is in their hands as to what they wish to communicate, and this column offers the channel for them to present that.
Throughout the year, Cinematography World publishes six printed editions of the magazine, along with an online Dispatch newsletter every week. Many of those printed editions focus on key events happening in the global cinematography calendar – such as the BSC Expo, Euro Cine Expo, IBC and Camerimage. We work with many organisations and groups as media partners, with the aim of celebrating and promoting cinematographers, their collaborators, and the art of cinematography worldwide.
When we started Cinematography World our founding principles were focussed on helping to support a more diverse and inclusive industry. That core mission remains true today, and will remain our steadfast goal.
Throughout our 24 editions, we have featured a huge variety of contents and talented people from around the world, and we hope that if you have had the opportunity to read any of our editions, you will readily see this.
In 2024, we became aware of an exciting new group within our industry, Women In Cinematography, who we are delighted to be associated with as, along with other groups, we wholeheartedly support the cause.
Cinematography World signed the petition, entitled “Filmmakers Call for Change at Camerimage”, and you will find our logo there.
Since its inception, and as already mentioned, Cinematography World has maintained a determined vision to support diversity and inclusion. We have striven and will continue to be a platform for that. We have no intention of changing this model and our principles remain firm.
We believe that everyone has a voice, and we want to support all groups, especially those that are under-appreciated or under-represented, enabling them to show their talents, speak and discuss their views/opinions, and share their knowledge and experiences too. Only by doing this, can we offer a fully-rounded account of what is happening in the industry that we love and cherish.
We do not wish to upset, cause distress, or to undervalue anyone. We hope that the content of our publication reflects the opinions of those who can help to make a positive difference. Knowledge gives power, and the opportunity to change and improve situations.
Camerimage has been a must-attend event in the global calendar for over 30 years. We have attended the festival for 20 years.
With our November edition coinciding with Camerimage, Cinematography World runs a special preview of the festival. With plans for an expanded film centre, for several years we have felt it fitting to allow the founders to put their opinions forward in our View From The Top section.
For the November 2024 edition of Cinematography World, we offered View From The Top as a means for Camerimage to make a reply to the “Filmmakers Call for Change at Camerimage” petition.
Unfortunately, the piece submitted by Mr Marek Żydowicz, founder and festival director of ENERGACamerimage, has caused some distressing reactions. This uncensored article is the voice and opinion of an individual, informing the industry about where that organisation stands.
Our industry, like the world we live in, will continue to be challenged by differing opinions, obstacles and hard times, challenges that we all face on a daily basis in one form or another. The team behind Cinematography World has been embedded in this industry for many decades and have witnessed and endured many of these, and we know there will be more to come.
With our core purpose being a global platform and voice for this industry, we would like to reiterate that the opinions of our contributors are their responsibility.
We believe that problems create opportunities. It is our hope that publishing this article will allow you to offer Camerimage further input, and will allow them to evolve and continue in a way that supports all groups within our fantastic industry.
It is our sincerest wish that this matter can lead to a wider debate about diversity and inclusion. We invite Women In Cinematography to provide a reply that we can publish, with the aim of bringing positive change for all.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you, from the Cinematography World Team.
